- Medical review – If the laboratory reports a positive result for any of the above substances, a medical review officer (MRO) reviews the results to decide if there is a “legitimate medical explanation” for the positive test. The MRO may contact the employee to ask about any medications they are taking or medical conditions they may have that could have caused the positive result.
- Reporting of results – The MRO reports the results to the employer, who then notifies the employee. If the employee tests positive for any drugs, they will likely be subject to disciplinary action, which could include suspension or termination.
